This is developing into an interesting phenomenon, and not surprising.
I kind of equate it to recruiting announcements, guys last chance to turn a spotlight on themselves, but this time, not necessarily in a good way.
Many turn the announcement of their commitment, when there is no meaning of the word sometimes, into selfishness spectacles. Granted, some do not, they just decide where to go without much fanfare, but some have to stage it to get a lot of attention, set a date, big stage, etc, etc.
Now, we see guys at the end of their college career abandoning the team that gives them this next opportunity, and, in part, redirecting attention toward themselves in a very "me first" manner.
All the see guys doing this, I'd be curious to know, were they big fanfare announcement types? A neat social research project for anybody inclined.
I wonder how it plays, in the backrooms, of NFL GM's. Are these guys perceived as ones that will pack it in when a team is out of playoff contention, or when a game seems out of reach? If I were a GM, I think I would probably lean that way.
