I'd say this- if literally every p5 conf was an upset by a clearly sh!tty team, then we'd have a very interesting scenario (not least that there is the whole G5 to talk about). But yeah, actually, if every single one of the P5 couldnt do their one job and win on the one day it really mattered, then toss the lot of em.

But it doesnt and wouldnt have to be that absurd in any case anyway. You simply start with record and move down until you've got 4. I can see having SOME system for justifying bumping a higher loss team over a lower loss but it would have to be pretty severe (i.e. the test for that system is would it yield the correct answer in UCF vs Alabama; any system that still allows Alabama to go ahead can be sh!tcanned right away). Basically the disqualifier would apply unless everyone was equally disqualified in which case you start again. But at the very least, those teams would be bottom of the pot for qualifying.

But yeah. I'm totally okay with a playoff with UCF and perhaps even 3 other undefeated G5 teams if thats what it took, because (a) screw the ESPN caste system and (b) enforce the integrity of the game by giving the harsh message that YOU HAVE TO WIN THE IMPORTANT GAMES AND YOUR PEDIGREE IS NO FALLBACK. (I also give zero dangs about human ranking systems, either)
