No dog in this fight but to answer your last question....


You said... " If they feel strongly enough about something I don't care about, why should I try to get in their way?". My answer is you should get in the way because where does that line of thinking end? Lot's of things bother lot's of people. In fact, I doubt a person could say more than 3 words in this country and not offend somebody these days. With that stated the next question becomes at what percentage of bothered people do you let the "bothered people" dictate cultural change? Since on many of the issues we are split down the middle or darn close to it do we use 50%? 60%? 75%? At what point do we say "you lose, democracy wins, the majority of people want X"? Not pointing this argument at any particular issue (kneeling, statues, etc.. etc... I just find it a slippery slope to say "it offends somebody" so why should I object to changing it. That's easy to say and works on many issues for many people but eventually it stops working for everybody because they will come for something you do care about and then what?
