the F-4E was nuclear capable, and we had to certify on pre-planned missions to become mission ready. Also, my security clearance had to go to Cosmic Top Secret. Also, there was a Nuke Consent Switch in the rear cockpit that had three positions, Off, Release, and Release Armed. I controlled the dropping of the bomb, but it would only go off if the backseater put the switch in Release Armed.
