I think teams have a defensive plan against Tech which centers on shutting

down the RBs. Opposing defenses are stacking the box. It's been that way for 10+ years. "Stop the run and let the Hokies prove they're able to beat us through the air" says some potential opposing defensive coordinator.

Despite the fact Tech beat UNC, the plan worked perfectly for three quarters. Peoples and McClease were regularly stopped. Willis struggled throwing the ball, and often the only option was for Willis to run it himself.

So we have a miraculous win in Chapel Hill, but it doesn't mask the fact tthat the passing game has to become something opposing defenses have to feel a need to stop. I'll credit the offensive coaches however, the winning touchdown play should now be tops in the red zone playbook. Carolina stacks the line expecting Peoples up the middle. But Willis hits Keene running outside. The only way that doesn't work is if a linebacker is committed to covering the TE. So now, if teams are prepping for the play, the LB leaves the box to cover the TE, and now there is a bit more room for RBs to run.

The only answer to up production for the RBs is to force LBs to worry about covering the TE, RBs running routes out of the backfield, and to have wideouts that demand double coverage.
