Excellent road trip, but horrible college football atmosphere.

Plenty of places to go. I concur with the recommendation of bar hopping in southside on Carson Street. It's basically 15 blocks of nothing but bars and restaurants. Downtown across the river from the stadium complex has really emerged over the past 10 years too with lots of new dining options. Either way, it's a great city to visit.

Heinz Field, however, is just not a college football atmosphere. It usually sits half empty for Pitt games, and the crowd doesn't really get into the games there. It's even mediocre for a professional stadium. The football program really suffers from its lack of a on-campus football stadium. It was a colossal mistake tearing down the old Pitt Stadium and replacing it with a basketball stadium.
