Something worth considering is maybe ESPN expects the ratings during

the week to be lower than on the weekend. If there is any truth to that assumption, then it may make sense for ESPN to "waste" a Duke-UNC game on a weeknight slot.

As far as markets outside VA go, I am not sure how many people (ACC fans and non-ACC fans) are truly interested in a UVA-VT bball game. For games that start at 7pm/7:30pm, people are either still at work, just leaving work, starting to fix dinner, or eating dinner in the other time zones. Now people on the East Coast may be more inclined to watch a ranked UVA play a good VT in bball than say Clemson vs. Syracuse or Wake vs. FSU. However, I am not sure if that would be true if the match-up was some combination of Duke, L'ville, UNC, Notre Dame, and UVA.
