I hope you are right, but fear you will be wrong

I live in Greenville. Counties adjacent to Greenville have mandatory evacuations. We will have 2 days of excessive winds and as much as 10 inches of rain. That combination creates a lot of downed trees and power outages. All the rain upstream will run down here and create flood conditions around the rivers and creeks which will cut off a number of roads. Storm surge in the Pamlico/Tar river will be 8-10'.

We have had a few bad ones here over the years, we know how it goes and they project this the worse. Even if it continues the turn they are saying it will take we will still get a significant hit, this storm is very wide.

Getting the players out of town (all students were told to leave) is one thing. Getting them ready to play a football game with all the disruptions is totally different. The staff required to get them to florida is minimal compared to the staff required when you are trying to do a football game. many of the staff are dealing with family situations as a result of the storm, so their focus needs to be there.

All that said, we are sad the game was canceled but for all concerned in Eastern NC, making the decision early so everyone could proceed with was the right thing to do. We don't expect you guys to understand, you have not dealt with Fran, Bertha, Floyd, Matthew or some of the other visitors we have had!

Trust the officials, they have the information to make the right decisions. This is not about avoiding VT, it is about allowing all involved to put personal situations as a priority during a natural disaster, rather than saddling anyone with worrying about the game. At times like this, there are many things more important than a football game.

Looking forward to the makeup game!

Check out the storm surge projections, notice what Greenville gets!
