ECU cancels classes- students highly encouraged to travel home before storm

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) - East Carolina University administrators have announced the cancelation of classes due to the approach of the Hurricane Florence.

The campus will not hold classes scheduled to start after 12 p.m. Tuesday and will not hold classes for the remainder of this week.

ECU administrators say that all students are highly encouraged to travel home before the tropical storm force winds are expected to begin in Greenville on Wednesday night.

For those students who live on campus and are not able to travel home, the residence halls will remain open.

The East Carolina area may experience downed trees, prolonged power outages, blocked roadways, closed bridges, and disruptions to water / sewer supply.

*** My guess is that they'll cancel the game for ECU's sake- Montgomery mentioned in PC today that they are concerned for their players and families / communications / responsibilities, etc. Storm may arrive by Wed night- that's not even a lot of time for serious emergency prep. Mandatory evac from OBX right now. ***
