The answer, at the moment, is Zabian Dowdell. And it's easy:

The trouble with just comparing stats is that different eras and different team makeups make for different roles and responsibilities, even in a PG. The point has been made that Bimbo needed to score more for his team to win, and that JRob is surrounded by better players (especially offensively) and a system that lends itself to way more assists. And those points are good points. It's hard to decide between Bimbo and JRob.

What's not hard to decide is that everyone who saw Zabian Dowdell play considered him one of the best players in the ACC, and that's saying something. In fact it's saying *everything*. He was first team All-ACC during his senior season, and all-ACC Defensive team twice. Finally he was honorable mention All-American in 2006-07. Even with an incredible senior season, it's doubtful JRob will be 1st team All-ACC or even honorable mention All-American. But even if he does he won't sniff All-Defense.

Dowdell affected games on defense in a way that JRob only dreams about. He would get on the opposing team's PG and just be relentless, completely taking them out of their game. He was strong with the ball, and he was clutch. Don't know the numbers, but Zabian hit many a game winning shot. Plus he was a way more efficient shooter than JRob if memory serves (I don't have the stats at hand).

JRob is a very good player, but he hasn't done what Zabian did. And in fact he has absolutely no chance to be the defender that Zabian was. So I'll take Dowdell all day every day because basketball is played on two ends of the court.
