He did 2 very stupid things:

1) Driving himself to the hospital. Always call the rescue squad. They will start treatment in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. They are equipped and well trained.
2) Declining treatment at the hospital until his wife arrives. Every minute of delay equals the death of more heart tissue.

This awesomeness could have easily killed him. He should have known better. Stupid.
