Most of the bluster from that position over the years has been that VT and UVA somehow "need to be strong for each other" and protect the state borders somehow.

What I think you're really saying is we just need more big, made-for-tv annual series games, and if UVA returns as one of the games, the more the better. I think that's probably true, but I don't think VT-UVA has EVER really been a national game. Outside the commonwealth, the game has always been a rivalry weekend afterthought lost among the myriad of others.

As much investment as Tech has put into television, I think we're trying to get blood from a stone. We play whatever ridiculous day / time ESPN tells us in whatever ridiculous uniforms Nike tells us. I think we hold the record for Thursday and non-Saturday televised appearances.

I'd like to revive the WVU rivalry as well, and ditch East Carolina. I feel bad for the students over the last 14 years that haven't been able to experience a WVU game in Blacksburg. It was always like none other, and totally electric.
