Good question ...

The Nassar situation will undoubtedly impact the finances of MSU as there will be significant settlements. I doubt it will have much impact upon the football program or basketball program, although there are other stories out there that indicate both the football and basketball coaches were aware of other sexual improprieties with their athletes and that those situations were handled improperly.

The difference between the Sandusky situation and the MSU situation is dramatic. At PSU, there were 4 individuals (Paterno, Curley, Schultz, and Spanier) who were given a second hand, conflicting, hearsay report regarding a potential SINGLE child abuse situation. There was no direct report from any victim, nor was any victim ever identified. These 4 individuals all took the course of action by providing the information up their chain of authority and then reported the information OUTSIDE of the PSU organization to The Second Mile (Sandusky's employer at the time). Obviously, there are differing opinions and versions of what that report was that was made to them and that will likely never be fully resolved.

On the other hand, the MSU situation appears to have DOZENS of victims making a direct report to coaches, administrators, and even their OWN PARENTS providing a first person description of the abuse that was taking place - and nothing was done. That is mind boggling, but also gives some insight into how terribly complicated a "sexual abuse" situation can be in the eyes of different people.
