They're just not a program that financially can go head to head with Clemson, FSU, and Louisville and win most seasons. But, say you flip Duke and NC State (cross-division rivals would work out). The Wolfpack would have a far better chance at competing in the Coastal Division against VT, Miami, and Georgia Tech.

So, keeping Doeren is probably the best opportunity they have right now to stay relevant. 7-5 may not sound sexy but for them that's where they should be in that division.
