My theory is that they had the benefit of ACC officiating that refused
to ever call fouls on them with their constant hand-checks, over-the-back, reaching and moving screens. It was constant and rarely called. Notre Dame is the other ACC school that gets away with this. I know everybody does it, but UVa and ND base their entire defensive identity (not counting the offensive moving screens) off of getting away with it.
Fast forward a week, and UVa doesn't have a 100% ACC officiating crew. I'm not certain there was an ACC official, but I could be wrong.
I had mentioned this to the Hoo trollers very recently, and you couldn't convince them that UVa wasn't getting away with a lot on defensive no-calls. I think seeing UVa olay and not clog the lane was a product of players having fouls called on them when they're not used to it. If ACC officiating were like that game was last night, UVa would have had 23 to 25 wins and just a top 4 ACC finish. [Post edited by Calamitous at 03/17/2018 12:46PM]
