Virginia Tech to Host Princeton in the NIT

2016-nit-logo-250px-highVirginia Tech will host Princeton in the opening round of the 2016 National Invitation Tournament on Wednesday night. Tipoff is scheduled for 8pm, and the game will be televised by ESPNU.

Tech will be a #3 seed in the NIT, while Princeton is a #6 seed.

The Hokies finished 19-14 this season, advancing to the ACC Tournament Quarterfinals. A six-game winning streak over the final five games of the regular season and the first game of the ACC Tournament pushed them over the hump and into the postseason for the first time since 2011.

Princeton finished 22-6 on the season, including a 12-2 mark in Ivy League Play. However, the Ivy League doesn’t play a postseason tournament, and the Tigers’ second place finish wasn’t enough to get them into the NCAA Tournament.

Five of Princeton’s six losses came at the hands of NCAA Tournament participants…

at Stony Brook: 91-77
at St. Joseph’s: 62-50
vs. Maryland: 82-61
at Miami: 76-64
at Yale: 79-74

They also defeated NCAA Tournament participants Fairleigh Dickinson, Hampton, and Yale.
Tickets for the Princeton game will go on sale on Monday at noon. Virginia Tech will sell $15 tickets and $5 tickets for this game.

If the Hokies get by the Tigers, they’ll face either #2 seed BYU or #7 seed UAB in the second round. UAB would have to travel to Blacksburg, while a second round date with BYU would put Tech on the road.
