Confirmed Visitors: UNC

As expected, Saturday was a big day on the football recruiting front for the Hokies. Top class of 2014 and 2015 targets were in attendance, including DT Ricky Walker and WR Kendrick Holland , uncommitted seniors making official visits. Here is the rundown of those we have confirmed so far…

CLASS OF 2014 TARGETS

Kendrick Holland , WR, Winter Haven (FL)

Minnesota was the first official visit destination for Holland, who reportedly will also visit Kentucky before making a decision.

Ricky Walker , DT, Bethel (Hampton, VA)

The 6’2″, 275-pound Walker is at Tech on an official visit, which concludes on Sunday. He has also taken an official to Nebraska and is considering Penn State, Pittsburgh, UNC, and others. The Hokies are considered one of the top contenders here, but when a decision will come is anyone’s guess.

Melvin Keihn , LB, Gilman School (Baltimore, MD)

Keihn is one of Virginia Tech’s top remaining linebacker targets in the class of 2014.  This was his first experience at Tech since the spring and his second overall.  Judging from his tweets, the experience went well.

Keihn was on an unofficial visit.

Raymon Minor , LB/WR, Benedictine (Richmond, VA)

It appears Minor was in Blacksburg for the second time this season on Saturday (he attended the Marshall game as well), certainly a good sign for the Hokies. The 6’3″, 225-pound senior is another of Tech’s top linebacker targets. He says he will take some officials before committing, but Tech appears to be in real solid shape right now.

Jay Payton , LB, Atlanta Sports Academy (Atlanta, GA)

VT is the favorite for Payton if an offer comes. We’ll check in with him to see where he stands following yesterday’s unofficial visit.

MORE VISITORS

– Thomas Dale (Chester, VA) safety CJ Reavis finishes up his official visit to Virginia Tech on Sunday. On Saturday, he was joined in Lane Stadium by fellow commitments Terrell Edmunds (CB, Dan River High School in Ringold, VA), Andrew Ford (QB, Cedar Cliff in Camp Hill, PA), Vinny Mihota (Massaponax in Fredericksburg, VA), Tyrell Smith (OL, Don Bosco Prep in Ramsey, N.J.), and Greg Stroman (CB, Stonewall Jackson in Manassas, VA).

– Benedictine (Richmond, VA) defensive end Clelin Ferrell and Stonewall Jackson (Manassas, VA) defensive tackle Tim Settle, who are two of the top defensive line prospects in the class of 2015, were at Tech on Saturday as well. The 6’5″, 220-pound Ferrell has an offer from the Hokies plus 10 other major college programs. Tech made a great initial impression on him when he visited on July 13 and 14 this past summer.

Settle, a 6’3″, 310-pound prospect, has visited UVa many times and also seems high on Alabama, North Carolina, and Ohio State. Virginia Tech, which has offered along with those other schools, impressed yesterday it appears.

Dan River (Ringgold, VA) junior linebacker/tight end Tremaine Edmunds , who reportedly has now been offered by Virginia Tech, was in attendance also.

  1. Whats going to happen if UVA fires London after this year ? I am wondering if the recruits will stick with them .

  2. Things certainly sound like they are on the upswing. Great weather, packed house, big victory, and lots of big time recruits all together full of positive energy.
    I like it. Great report.

  3. Wow! Great list of prospects. Wish we could looked a little better on the field, but it was a win on a fine day, and it sounds like the crowd was into the game.
