Former Virginia Tech wrestling assistant Derek St. John is joining Kevin Dresser at Iowa State, according to a report by IAwrestle.com.

St. John had served as a volunteer assistant at Virginia Tech since the 2015-2016 season. St. John, who wrestled at Iowa, will follow Dresser to Iowa State. Dresser left Virginia Tech for the Iowa State on Feb. 20, before Virginia Tech wrestled in the ACC Championship and the NCAA Championships.

Tony Robie, who served as Dresser’s lead assistant at Virginia Tech, was officially promoted to serve as head coach on March 21. The other assistant on Dresser’s Virginia Tech staff, Mike Zadick, has not officially joined Robie or Dresser’s staff.

  1. But, St. John graduated from Iowa, didn’t he? Maybe he just wants to go with Dresser and go back to the state of Iowa.

  2. I can understand alumni wanting to return to their Alma Mater to work and be on campus. That would be about the only reason to go back to Iowa State University. MOO!!
