About TechSideline.com

Tech Sideline is an independent publication, not affiliated with the university or its athletic programs, so we provide a unique perspective that appeals to the large and growing fan base of Virginia Tech Athletics.

Tech Sideline was launched on March 12, 1996 by 1987 Tech graduate (BSEE) Will Stewart as a small, personal web page. In 1997, the site evolved into HokieCentral.com, and in August of 1999, joined the SportsWar network of college sports web sites. In November of 2000, the site changed names to TechSideline.com, or TSL. Over the years, TSL has grown into what you see before you: a full-time Virginia Tech sports media company, complete with web site, podcast, YouTube channel, and large and active social media presences.

TSL is a member of the SportsWar network of college sports web sites. Visit SportsWar.com for more information.

  1. One bit of feedback, the question about favorite place to eat in Blacksburg was odd and out of place. That kind of question makes sense for athletes currently at Tech. It doesn’t fit an interview of someone who has been gone for many many years.

A more out of the box type question could have built off of his bringing up great players from the past. If his best VT team from the past played our current VT team, what would that game look like? I’ll bet the coaching wheels would automatically start moving is his head and make for an interesting answer. And it allows him to talk a bit more about his VT guys, who he is clearly proud of.

    1. Agree – the only disappointments for me was not making the NCAA tournament more often and not being able to make it to the NIT final 4 even though we were 1 or 2 seed in 5 tournaments. I believe we lost at home in those tournaments.

Otherwise we had some great players and consistently competitive teams in the ACC. And had two NBA caliber players, Dorian and Montrezl when he was let go. I was disappointed when that happened. But, that made way for Buzz and he proved that NCAA appearances were not an unreasonable expectation for us.

He is still a coach at heart and a a good communicator and that makes him a good studio analyst. I am surprised that he hasn’t gotten the coaching bug and wanted to try that again.

  2. Well done on the interview! Good to hear SG’s thoughts and hope to see him calling a game in Cassell this season!

  3. Nicely done. I met Coach Greenberg a couple of times and found him pleasant and easy to talk to. Twice during the interview he referenced having many great years at Virginia Tech and “one bad week.” I would have asked him “Do you care to elaborate on the one bad week?” Would be interested on his take. He brought it up.

    1. Agreed. Yeah…he opened the door regarding his leaving. I’m sure Carter wants to keep everything positive. And I doubt Seth would’ve gotten specific. But still interesting.
