The Hokie Way’s preseason “Countdown to Kickoff” fundraising drive is in its final days, and it hasn’t yet reached its goal of raising at least $250,000 for Virginia Tech NIL and partnered charitable organizations.
Countdown to Kickoff seeks to raise $250,000, which will then be matched, resulting in a half a million dollars going towards helping The Hokie Way accomplish its mission of pairing Virginia Tech student-athletes with key local charities.
As of today (August 29), Countdown to Kickoff has raised over $100,000 and needs to finish strong to reach its goal.
“We believe in the power of collaboration and are thrilled to align our student-athletes with these impactful nonprofits,” said Jim Petrine, President of The Hokie Way Board of Directors said in their early August press release. “By leveraging their NIL, we can amplify the charitable efforts and make a meaningful difference.”
Countdown to Kickoff runs through kickoff of this weekend’s football game against ODU (8 PM on September 2nd), which means there’s still time to boost contributions to the $250,000 goal.

Sent a donation thru TSL today.
Will, donated a few days ago via the TSL link but didn’t see any acknowledgment that TSL got credit. Does that sound correct?? Thanks! JJ
I don’t think you’re supposed to see anything, but it’s definitely counted on their end.
I wish they put a ticker up on the website like VT does for Giving Day and Triumph Together so we can see where the progress is at. I think that would help motivate people by seeing how close/far they are from the goal.
👍 Agreed. Next fund drive.
Ok Will, I doubled up to help the cause.
Here is a little to help
