Virginia Tech didn’t host any official visitors last weekend due to there being a 7-on-7 camp in town. Brent Pry and the coaches are back at it this weekend, however, with what seems to be an emphasis on defensive linemen plus a couple of in-state wideouts.

A Big Weekend For Defensive Line Recruiting

Last year Virginia Tech signed no defensive tackles, and one of the defensive ends it signed can be considered a project because he’s Canadian and played fewer than 20 games at the high school level (plus he’s already injured his shoulder). Suffice it to say, this is a huge year for defensive line recruiting, especially on the interior.

The Hokies have a commitment from DeMatha defensive tackle Emmett Laws, who I think is as good of a fit for the Virginia Tech scheme as anyone it could have found in this region. That’s a great start, but question marks surround Tech’s other two commits. Defensive tackle Andrew Hanchuk is coming off a torn ACL and didn’t play much as a junior, while defensive end commit Deric Dandy is undersized and admitted to TSL’s Jason Stamm that he has issues with his grades.
