Chance Fitzgerald
Wide Receiver, Class of 2023
Nolensville, Nolensville, TN
6-3, 184
Virginia Tech got good news on Friday afternoon when Nolensville (TN) wide receiver Chance Fitzgerald made his verbal commitment to the Hokies. Fitzgerald is commitment No. 23 of the 2023 recruiting class and the fifth wide receiver.
Fitzgerald joins Ayden Greene (TN), Marcell Baylor (VA), Takye Heath (VA) and Jonathan Pennix (VA) as wide receiver commitments in the current recruiting class.
He’s a late-riser who picked up the majority of his major scholarship offers after his senior season began. Virginia Tech offered on October 11, and that opened the floodgate of Power 5 offers. After the Hokies offered, many followed.
Minnesota (also Oct. 11), Louisville (Oct. 12), Michigan State (Oct. 12), WVU (Oct. 13), Georgia Tech (Oct. 13), Wisconsin (Oct. 17), Iowa (Oct. 17), Oklahoma State (Oct. 17), Michigan (Oct. 20), Syracuse (Oct. 20), Auburn (Oct. 20), Kansas State (Oct. 20), Pitt (Nov. 9), Oklahoma (Dec. 12) and Colorado (Dec. 12) all extended an invitation to Fitzgerald.
Fitzgerald is a high 3-star recruit by 247Sports and ranks as the No. 49 wide receiver in the 2023 recruiting class. He’s also the No. 11 overall prospect in Tennessee according to 247Sports’ composite rankings.
He had over 700 receiving yards as a junior, but his recruitment took off as a senior. He finished the 2022 season with 88 receptions for 1,348 yards and 17 touchdowns. As a result of those numbers, as well as the fact that offers from major programs continued to roll in, it’s possible that Fitzgerald could rise even further in the final rankings.
With his commitment, Virginia Tech now has 14 scholarship wide receivers for 2023 and sits at 89 total scholarships, 47 on the offensive side of the ball.

Fantastic….Welcome Hokie!
Looks like Pry is stepping it up on the recruiting side. This is good news
Let’s hope He plays like Mickey Fitzgerald-the Giant Ass Fullback and former Tight End of the late 1970’s! Not sure if I see the resemblance though..
Very nice pick up! Lot’s of speed on display in that video.
Looks like the offensive side of the ball is being addressed, however there aren’t any additions to the O-Line.If Rudolph doesn’t get the O-Line problem fixed its going to be tough sledding again without a running game!
what are you talking about? Our #1 rated recruit in the 247.com Composite is an OL, and we’ve got four OL in total for the 2023 class.
Layne Ghannam 0.895 6-5 280
Haynes Hammer 0.864 6-6 270
Gabriel Arena 0.855 6-5 285
Lance Williams 0.855 6-4 306
some critics just have NO clue…
Welcome Chance!! His film is great! Big kid with really good speed and very fluid. Tons of upside.
ABRS – Always Be Red Shirting. With 5 true freshman, I hope some of these 3-4 will red shirt, this extends the list out another year for a few of them. Some will need a year in S&C and the Nutrition table to put on 5-10 lbs (maybe even up to 20 depending on current size) of muscle so when they go up for a 50/50 ball it is a 75/25 ball.
GO HOKIES!!!
Great pick up! I think he will immediately come in and press for playing time. We are bringing in some receivers with great potential.
