On Thursday, the ACC announced times and television networks for the first three weeks of the college football season. Virginia Tech, scheduled to play three weeknight games – at Old Dominion, vs. West Virginia, at NC State – received info on those contests as well.

The Hokies open their 2022 schedule on Labor Day Friday in Norfolk against the Monarchs, a 7 p.m. ET kickoff on ESPNU. It’s the second time in program history that Virginia Tech has played at ODU, the first coming in 2018. In Brent Pry’s first game leading Tech out of the tunnel, he squares off with an old friend: Monarchs head coach Ricky Rahne, a former coworker on staffs at Vanderbilt and Penn State.

Pry will run out of the tunnel to the tune of Enter Sandman for the first time as the head coach at Virginia Tech on Saturday, Sept. 10 under the lights. The program hosts Boston College at 8 p.m. on the ACC Network. It’s the fourth time Tech has opened ACC play against the Eagles, joining the 2010, 2016 and 2019 seasons. Tech is 2-1 in those games, having lost in 2019.

The following weekend, the Hokies will host Wofford for the first time in program history. It’s an 11 a.m. ET kickoff on the ACC Network, and therefore the earliest game ever played in Lane Stadium.

The Battle for the Black Diamond Trophy comes to Blacksburg on Thursday, Sept. 22. It’s a primetime game at 7:30 p.m. on ESPN between Virginia Tech and West Virginia, the first time VT has hosted WVU on a Thursday since 2000. The Hokies and Mountaineers squared off in Morgantown last year, which WVU won 27-21. West Virginia leads the all-time series, 29-23-1.

A month later, Tech plays another Thursday night game, this time at NC State. It’s the 51st meeting in the series and will be a 7:30 p.m. kickoff on ESPN. The last weeknight game Tech played against the Wolfpack was on Friday in 2015. However, the only other time Virginia Tech and NC State played in Raleigh on Thursday was the first-ever series meeting: Oct. 25, 1900. Tech won 18-2.

Current Virginia Tech Schedule With Times/Networks:

Friday, Sept. 2: at Old Dominion, 7 p.m., ESPNU
Saturday, Sept. 10: vs. Boston College, 8 p.m., ACCN
Saturday, Sept. 17: vs. Wofford, 11 a.m., ACCN

    1. Thanks for catching that. That’s what I meant to write, just a typo.

  1. Saturday, Sept. 17: vs. Wofford, 11 a.m., ACCN—WTH? a pre-nooner for TV?

  2. Beat ODU and play well early against BC and WVU and rocking crowds in Lane can help us win those two fairly even match-ups talent wise.

Lose to ODU or BC do you get the full crowd of fans back for WVU?

  3. VT vs WVu at night – nothing to worry about there. You can’t make this stuff up….

    1. 1. We’ve known it’s a Thursday night game for a while. Were you expecting a noon game on Thursday?
      2. Have you fallen so far as to actually be scared about a home night game?

      1. Maybe Go_Hokies_Go is concerned about the amount of time a night game provides for WVU fans to get loaded?

        1. The game is in Blacksburg. Thursday nite. our fans will be ready to rock. ps I have a sack full of batteries ready to go.
