MJ Collins Commits To Virginia Tech

Virginia Tech picked up a men’s basketball commitment from 2022 combo guard MJ Collins on Sunday morning.  Collins is the first commitment of the 2022 recruiting class for Mike Young.

Collins is from Rock Hill, SC, and he chose the Hokies over Clemson and Xavier.  He visited Blacksburg in early June, and though he did visit Clemson later in the month, the Tigers weren’t able to sway him in the end.  He also picked up offers in June from programs such as Providence and Oklahoma.

Collins is the No. 4 player in the state of South Carolina according to 247 Sports.  He is ranked as the No. 134 player nationally by the 247 Composite rankings.

  1. Congrats to MJ and to VT!

Just wondering how the #134 national player is only 3 stars. That means that there are only 125 or so 4 and 5 star bball players across the US?

That seems like a low number.

    1. Basketball recruiting isn’t like football recruiting

There are 4x as many starters on a football field than there are in basketball. There are 4x as many drafted players in football than basketball. So you *should* have 4 times as many 4 stars in football than basketball.

Basketball has around 105-110 4-stars on average each year.

      1. Another way to look at it would be you need 5 -10 good healthy basketball players & you’re golden unless you like to look at the glass half full.
