Wide Receiver, Class of 2022
Perry High School, Perry, GA
6-4, 230

Virginia Tech picked up a verbal commitment from Georgia wide receiver Daequan Wright on Monday night.  He is the 13th commitment of the 2022 recruiting class, and the first wide receiver.

Wright is currently unranked by 247Sports, but his recruitment only got started this summer.  He picked up an offer from Georgia Tech in early June, and later added an offer from the Hokies.  He ultimately decided to attend college out-of-state after a visit to Blacksburg sealed the deal.

Wright plays for Perry High School in Perry, GA, which is just south of Macon and Warner-Robbins.  The Hokies are still actively recruiting another outside receiver for the 2022 class, with Tucker Holloway reportedly down to Virginia Tech and Iowa State.

  1. The description under his picture says he’s the first 2022 recruit.
    Really?

  2. Watching his highlight reel, three things stand out:
    1. He uses his size well to give him the best position when chatting the ball in traffic
    2. He is very adept at running the bubble screen and uses great vision to get the most from his blockers.
    3. The kid does not shy away from contact and when he’s blocking corners and safeties… they go down. Very nice to see a big wideout who is an eager blocker too.
He may not have the 5th gear to earn a fourth star but this guy is playing at a high level in a very competitive part of the state of Georgia where they produce a ton of college recruits.

  3. Kudos for getting the name of our school right.

“I am now committed to Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University,” Wright announced.

  4. I live in Warner Robins. High school football is huge around here with loads of talent. Welcome aboard Mr. Wright.

  5. Good Get! Nice Size, Good hands, Catches the ball with his hands. Not much speed. Looking forward to him scoring a lot!

  6. “Daequon Wright” just sounds like a wide receiver, doesn’t it? 🙂

Nice pickup. Certainly appears to have the size that we’re looking to add at the WR position.

      1. Just wait to see where they rank him…. Our last unranked guy is the second highest in the class now.

      2. Of all classes, this is one you’re going to have to judge after the fact, not before.

  7. CC- you lost me. Why is he listed at three stars if he’s currently unranked by 247Sports and Rivals? Is this a TSL ranking? Thanks.
