Virginia Tech freshman defensive end Justin Beadles announced on Twitter on Friday night that he would be entering the transfer portal.

Beadles, a 6-5, 232 defensive end from Tyrone, GA, picked the Hokies over Arizona State, Boston College, Maryland, Mississippi State, Missouri, Purdue, and others.  He did not play in 2020, though he was regarded by the staff as a good prospect for the future.

The departure of Beadles leaves two remaining defensive ends from the 2020 class, Robert Wooten and Alec Bryant.

  1. I think I can relate a little better to these decisions when they come from first year guys. It might be as simple as woah, this isn’t the place for me, I made a mistake.

  2. Possibly he couldn’t meet the academic standards. In any case I really do wish him the best of luck in navigating life’s treacherous hurdles to a successful career. Thank you for giving us a chance.

  3. My daughter played at a high level of soccer during her teen years. She considered playing at the collegate level. Went to a tournament in NJ for rising HS seniors. Many college coaches were there to look over the talent. The VaTech assistant coach was there and my daughter spoke to her. She told my daughter how things worked, the commitment, the hard work, and the pressure between athletics and academics. My daughter told me a little later that after HS she was hanging up her soccer shoes, she was going to college to obtain a degree. Point being it is quite possible some of the players opting for the transfer portal are looking for a team not quite as committed to excellence in football. And, maybe Justin got his bell rung in practice by OL, and thought I’m not in HS any more. Who knows?

  4. I would just give these guys a number and not worry about putting their name on a jersey.

  5. Perhaps he see something lacking in terms of longevity,

Best of luck in your next adventure.

As for VT another spot opened up for our latest Transfer Portal injection.

    Let’s Go… Hokies!

  6. This one looks like someone that was homesick. None of the incoming freshmen enrolled early in the spring so not sure what grounds he could have lost. Unless he was passed by a walk on

    1. Did he already see the writing on the wall? Was he already in the 3rd deep or lower? Strange he has barely been here and gone! Best of luck to find a team and a place in the line up down the road.

      GO HOKIES!!!

      1. If Teerlink’s philosophy is to rotate a lot and throw a bunch of different packages at offenses then nobody should feel lost that early in a career. Homesick, Tapp leaving, people telling him he’s too great for VT, who knows? The only thing for certain is that the concepts of team first and working for playing time no longer exist.
