Virginia Tech Picks Up Commitment From 2022 Offensive Lineman Johnny Dickson

Johnny Dickson
Offensive Guard, Class of 2022
Flour Bluff High School, Corpus Christi, TX
6-3, 280

Virginia Tech picked up a commitment from Flour Bluff High School (Corpus Christi, TX) offensive guard Johnny Dickson on Tuesday afternoon.  He is fifth commitment of the 2022 class, and the second offensive lineman of the class.

Dickson is rated as the No. 13 offensive guard prospect in the country and the No. 61 player in Texas by 247Sports.  He chose the Hokies over reported offers from Arkansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas A&M, plus major Group of Five schools such as Houston and Memphis.

Dickson is originally from Virginia Beach, but his family moved to Texas when he was in the eighth grade.  He joins Braelin Moore as 2022 offensive line commits.  Both are projected to play on the interior of the offensive line for the Hokies.

  1. Wow, he does not give up on a block. Long day for many when they face him. Good get. thanks for choosing Tech! 🙂

    1. That’s where some of the 400 million needs to go. Other of it needs to go to find other coaches like him

  2. what class of texas hs footbal does the school play in? he just seems to overrun everyone!

  3. If this kid weighs only 280 then I’m taller than Bucky Hodges…and I’m not. I’d say he weighs 320.

  4. Grading linemen, especially, is really hard given that half the country didn’t play last year.

He looks heavier than his listed weight but seems to have quick feet.

  5. Has a mean streak…will have to tighten up a bit at next level with his body. High level of competition though

  6. How tough is it to transition from OG to OT? Do OTs slide over to OG? Is weight / height a factor at all?

Brown is famous for TE to OT (250 to 300?) On D, LB Belmar is growing into DE.

    1. This young man looks more like an OG than an OT to me. Looks like he has good feet though. Never know…he could slide over to OT. I’m sure Vice will look at him at both positions. Most OT’s are a little more athletic than OG’s. Better in space with super lateral movement ability. Longer arms and usually in the 6’5”+ range.

    2. OT requires height, longer arms and quicker feet. They need to be able to block the DE on the outside and block down on the DT. OT is the most physically gifted part of the OT.

    1. That’s because he committed to VT. If it had been Clemson, Alabama, etc., he would be an automatic 5 star- hah!
