Virginia Tech cornerback Caleb Farley has opted out of the 2020 season.  The news was first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, and Farley posted a video of his announcement on social media shortly thereafter.

Farley is regarded by most as a potential first round pick in the NFL Draft, and he noted in the video that he would spend his fall preparing for next spring’s draft.  He was the top rated cover corner by Pro Football Focus in 2019.  He had four interceptions this past year for the Hokies, including one returned for a touchdown.

  1. Understand the decision. We will miss him IF we have a season which is doubtful. Good luck CF.

  2. How are they really going to play football??!! Spit and sweat flying around at the line of scrimmage all game long. The football itself is usually loaded with germs. Dollars vs the health of the student athlete is what it’s all about. The season should be cancelled with all energy focused on playing in August 2021. Best of luck to Farley…a true Hokie!

  3. Sounds like he has concerns about getting sick and bringing it home to others. I assume he will not be attending classes this fall either. Wish him the best.

  4. Smart decision by him. He had little to gain and so very much to lose if he played in whatever this “season” might end up being. I’ll always be rooting for him.

  5. His teammates don’t have this luxury. His teammates needed him. Not a fan.

  6. The ACC just published the 2020 schedules starting September 7-12 with 10 conference games and 1 additional game. What are the odds on that happening at all

  7. All respect to Farley and best wishes in his NFL future. Love how much he improved in one season.

    1. Uhhh, that’s for transfer to another college. He doesn’t want to go to another college. He is leaving college to pursue an NFL career. So…NO.
