Johnson was offered by the Hokies last June before Bud Foster’s retirement, but the new defensive staff continued the recruitment, which was led by defensive coordinator and safeties coach Justin Hamilton. He is from Leonardtown, Maryland, where he attends St. Mary’s Ryken.
Johnson chose the Hokies over offers from Boston College, Louisville, Maryland, Minnesota, Northwestern, Pitt, Rutgers, Syracuse and Minnesota. He is a 3-star recruit by 247Sports, and the No. 18 player in Maryland. He is the fourth commitment of the 2021 recruiting class.
