2018 ACC Football Preseason Predictions Notes

In total, 148 ballots were cast, and 122 (82.4 percent) picked Miami to win the division, while 16 (10.8 percent) picked Virginia Tech to win the division. Georgia Tech received eight votes, while Duke and UNC got one each.

This is the fifth time Miami has been picked to win the division in 14 years of divisional play. (The ACC didn’t have divisions in 2004.) Virginia Tech has been picked to win the Coastal seven times in that time span. The other two picks have gone to Georgia Tech (2015) and North Carolina (2016).

139 voters selected Clemson to win the ACC Championship.  Five picked Miami, two went with NC State, while Virginia Tech and Florida State received one vote each.

Virginia Tech has not been predicted to win the Coastal Division since the 2012 season.  Miami won the division last year after being selected as the winners in the preseason.  That was the first time since Virginia Tech in 2011 that the preseason Coastal Division favorite went on to win the division.

  1. Man… I remember that 2016 ACC title game like it was yesterday. VT stormed back in the 4th quarter to beat Clemson and head to the College Football Championship, which we ended up running through for Tech’s first national championship. Ahhh, the memories.

    Wait… that didn’t happen?

    1. I’m an idiot… that chart is Coastal champs, not ACC champ. We just won it so much in the early years I just figured it was ACC champ.
