Virginia Tech’s 2018 defensive recruiting class focused on linebackers and defensive backs. The Hokies were especially successful at bringing in several high caliber linebacker prospects who had offers from multiple Power 5 conference programs. Today we’ll talk about that, and compare the numbers with past defensive classes.

2012: 6.9 Power 5 offers
2013: 7.6 Power 5 offers
2014: 7.7 Power 5 offers
2015: 9.2 Power 5 offers
2016: 5.0 Power 5 offers
2017: 10.4 Power 5 offers
2018: 7.7 Power 5 offers
In our last article on Power 5 offers, we looked at the offensive side of the ball, and we saw that Virginia Tech’s offensive recruiting took a huge step forward in the 2018 class. On the defensive side of the ball, that big jump came in 2017, and then dropped back a bit for 2018.
