Zion DeBose Publicly Commits to Virginia Tech for Class of 2017

DeBose further adds to the defensive line depth accumulated in the Class of 2017.

Even though Signing Day was Wednesday, Virginia Tech added a piece to their Class of 2017 on Friday with a commitment from Zion DeBose.

DeBose, a 3-star defensive end from Spencer, NC., made an official visit to Virginia Tech last weekend. The 6-foot-2, 226-pound recruit chose Virginia Tech over Pittsburgh, Illinois and Missouri. In all, DeBose had 11 Power 5 offers.

Virginia Tech wanted to add depth on the defensive line and they have done so with the Class of 2017. DeBose joins defensive ends Nathan Proctor and Tyjuan Garbutt, as well as defensive tackles Robert Porcher IV and JBril Glaze.

Even though Proctor and Garbutt are 4-star prospects, DeBose could be the best one of the three when it’s all said and done. DeBose flew under the radar for much of his recruitment until his senior season. Here are his highlights.

  1. To me he has the explosiveness of Cory Moore, with more size. Thrilled he is now a Hokie!

    1. Agree. Reminds me of Corey Moore. Very excited to have Zion on our team. Welcome to Hokie Nation Mr. Debose. If you don’t know who Corey is…check him out on YouTube

  2. The is excellent news…
NC pipeline runs deep and getting bigger next season. Huge get as DeBose can play immediate in our 2 deep.

    Let’s Go…Hokies
    Remember going forward NC 336 + NC 704 > 757

  3. at the 3:50 mark of the highlights – he apparently comes out of the stands to make a stop.

    1. He plays in a central NC 2A conference so the competition is not that great. He led the conference in sacks (20) so he dominated even while being double teamed most of the season. Seems to have a very high ceiling and will probably add 25-30 lbs easily in our S&C program.

  4. GREAT!!! Welcome Mr DeBose!!! Can’t wait to see you wrecking havoc for Charlie Wiles in Bud’s defense!!
