Virginia Tech basketball announced on Monday that Christian Webster has been hired as an assistant to Head Coach Buzz Williams.
“I’m extremely excited to welcome Christian to our basketball family,” Williams said in a press release. “He fits exactly what we were looking to add to our program, building upon his experience of having been an outstanding player at Harvard, along with his coaching career thus far. Being from the D.C. area, he has a great familiarity with that region’s basketball community, which is an important recruiting ground for us. He has an outstanding rapport with student-athletes and his character matches what we want everyone in our program to be about, on and off the floor.”
With Webster being added to the staff, assistant Steve Roccaforte has been promoted to the first assistant position, with Jamie McNeilly being promoted to the second assistant position.
Webster, a Washington D.C. native, played four seasons at Harvard and helped guide the Crimson to three Ivy League Championships and consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances. Webster is the all-time winningest player in Harvard history with 90 career wins.
After graduating from Harvard in 2013, Webster stayed on as an assistant at Harvard for two seasons. Webster spent last season as an assistant at Central Florida.
