VT-ECU set for noon kickoff

Virginia Tech’s game at East Carolina has been scheduled for a noon kickoff.  The game will be televised by Fox Sports Net.

So far, we know the time and TV coverage of three Tech games this year…

August 31, vs. Alabama, 5:30pm, ESPN
September 14, at ECU, noon, FSN
September 26, at GT, 7:30pm, ESPN

The kickoff time and TV coverage of most of Tech’s games will be announced 12 days prior to kickoff, as per usual.

  1. Poor babies, have to get up a little early to make it to the games??? I live in Northern Va and getting to a noon game i need to get out the door at 5am to make it to BB by 1030 am. It was an act of love of VaTech football.

Later we decided to drive half way or better. Once i took my 4 year old daughter, was without a reservation, James Madison, VMI both had home games and there was an arts festival in the valley. It was 1am in the morning when i got perhaps the last hotel room in Roanoke.

For me those are fond memories. Make a game of it, enjoy the moment. Give Weaver a rest.

  2. I live in Greenville and I promise you it will be miserable at noon in September.

  3. Do you think if we actually rioted outside Weaver’s office he’d get the picture that fans actually DON’T want noon/1:30 kickoffs? I know this one is probably out of his control, but still.

    1. They are all out of his control, except for the non-televised games. Even the home games are all controlled by the networks.

Though it is his fault that we don’t have a Thursday night game. He specifically requested that.

      1. the game times are out of his control, but don’t you think if he keeps telling the networks we want noon games they’ll keep giving them to us! Weaver seems to think that ALL season ticket holders want early games.

        1. Not sure why you think that’s Weavers thinking. I don’t think he’s ever implied a preference for early games by homself or fans. All he said is that he wanted to give the fans a break from non-Saturday home games.

          1. Weaver has stated on multiple occasions that the 1:30pm kickoff time is ideal for fans traveling from 4 hours away because they drive in and out in the same day without getting home too late.

          2. 1:30 start won in a survey a few years back taken among season ticket holders / Hokie club donors.

I forget the exact language, but it was something like “if the game is not picked up for television, what start time would you prefer?”

      2. Chris was it published why he was against any Thursday night games this year? Thanks

        1. Weaver wanted to give the fans a break from the all the non-saturday games we’ve played the last few years.

  4. Ironic you posted a night pic of Lane for this “nooner” announcement.
