- Class of 2007
- Marshville, NC (Hargrave Military Academy)
- 6-4, 185 lbs
- Status: VT Signee
- Verbal Date: 2006-10-10
Notes:
Hudson was a starter at shooting guard for Hargrave Military Academy in 2006/2007.
Hudson averaged 16 points, eight rebounds and three steals per game as a junior. He played for Forest Hills High School (Marshville, N.C.) and earned county player of the year honors.
Hudson is the cousin of Tech 2008 commitment J.T. Thompson.
Comments from TSL Guru Rev. Zeke Vodka: Dorenzo Hudson was a huge pickup for the Virginia Tech program because they showed the ability to out recruit many other big name programs for a prospect who was scorching hot throughout the important spring and summer periods and a player who was seeing his national profile being raised with each event. Many schools became or tried to get involved with Hudson during the spring and summer, but, in the end, Virginia Tech was able to get his signature.
On the floor, Hudson is a scorer of the basketball. He can hit the three, particularly out of the right corner and right wing. He has a mid-range pull up game. He can post up smaller players with the short corner turnaround jumper. He uses the glass on his floater and driving lay-ups well and can punch one at the goal if given a crease. Lastly, Hudson nails the teardrop runner in the paint over taller defenders with an ease that belies how difficult a shot it really is for players. His defense will need work to get to the level of play that Seth Greenberg expects out of his players and his ballhandling can use some tightening up as well, but Hudson is an outstanding scorer who can impact any game he plays in and can take a team and carry them for stretches, a commodity that most any program would find useful.
