Tech Getting Better, or Playing to the Level of the Competition?

Virginia Tech’s last five games have been decided on the final shot.  Tech is 2-3 in those games.  They’ve defeated Boston College (66-65) and Georgia Tech (74-73), and they’ve lost to three ranked teams in Florida State (48-47), UVA (61-59) and Duke (70-65 in OT).

Seth Greenberg has said that his team has gotten better over the last couple of weeks, and I think most of us are in agreement with him.  You don’t play three NCAA Tournament teams down to the wire unless you are getting better.

At the same time, while nearly beating three ranked teams, the Hokies needed last second shots to beat the two worst teams in the league in Cassell Coliseum.  Boston College and Georgia Tech are bad basketball teams, and both nearly walked out of Cassell with victories.  A couple of buzzer beaters were all that kept Tech from going a combined 0-4 against Boston College, Wake Forest and Georgia Tech, three teams that have occupied the bottom of the ACC standings all season.
