Compared to last year’s scrimmage, I don’t think the 2024 Virginia Tech spring game gave us much of a look at the program’s newest signees, so this round of ‘Signee Scouts’ is going to introduce a lot of brand new faces to me, and maybe to you, too.

Let’s start with quarterback. Davi Belfort comes to the Hokies after throwing for 3,115 yards (67 percent completion rate) and 34 touchdowns as a senior for the Western High Wildcats in Davie, Fla.. The Under Armour All-American selection played against national power St. Thomas Aquinas, regional heavyweights Milton (Ga.) and Coconut Creek (Fla.) and some good in-district programs. He’s the only quarterback in Tech’s ‘24 signing class and is arguably Tech’s highest-profile QB recruit in recent memory, so we’ll spend some extra time on him.

Off the field, Belfort is one of the most interesting recruits to come through in a while. Regarding his personal life, he was born in Brazil, has an MMA superstar for a dad, a model/media personality/entrepreneur for a mom, reclassified from the ‘25 class to ‘24 and bounced around schools in Florida, with Gulliver Prep and Cardinal Newman being two prior stops. Belfort planned to attend spring ball with the Hokies but couldn’t because of credit issues for graduation; I’m guessing the reclass and the transfers created some hang-ups.

As a recruit, he came on the scene as a four-star quarterback who had the likes of Alabama, Florida, and Penn State kicking his tires. The hype started with him in middle school, though interest faded and he slipped in the rankings. By the time 2023 rolled around, the only Power 5 team that had him as their top priority QB was Virginia Tech. His other top schools were Michigan State, which had at least one more quarterback high (and maybe higher) on the board, and Texas A&M, which seemed to put his recruitment on the back-burner.
