Virginia Tech Basketball Q&A: Lineups, New Pieces, Development And More

Mike Young did not enjoy the way Virginia Tech men’s basketball played in 2023-24. (Ivan Morozov)

It’s been just over a month since hoops season came to an end for Virginia Tech. With that, let’s kick off the month of May by answering eight questions about the men’s and women’s basketball programs.

What did Mike Young mean when he said, “I hated how we played?” — catdaddy

Mike Young told David Teel of the Richmond Times-Dispatch in mid-April that he hated how Virginia Tech played this season. The full quote:

“Some attrition’s not bad,” he said. “Can you read between the lines? … I needed a reset. We had the (No. 37) offense in the country (according to KenPom metrics), and I hated how we played, and that’s my responsibility. That’s on me. I’m the freaking head coach.”

That’s a pretty honest answer from Young. But look no further than the turnover numbers to gather an understanding as to why he didn’t like how Virginia Tech played this season.
