There weren’t any theatrics between Virginia Tech director of athletics Whit Babcock and Kenny Brooks. It was a simple conversation before the Hokies women’s basketball coach left for the same job at Kentucky on Tuesday morning.

Babcock and Brooks met with university president Dr. Tim Sands on Monday and laid everything out on the table. In the end, he decided to move on to the SEC.

“I think [Kentucky athletic director] Mitch Barnhart was first class and Kenny as well,” Babcock said on Wednesday morning. “There were no ultimatums, no demands, no drama, very courteous conversations along the way. And we certainly wanted him to remain a Hokie.

“Kenny certainly knew that from us. And he knew that from Hokie Nation. Perhaps he just wanted a new challenge, and we’ll wish him well on that and be thankful, incredibly thankful, for what they did here and the standard they set here.”
