1) Could you go into the football non-coaching positions on the VT staff relative to titles, main duties, etc. – LTHokie

I can try, but realize that in some cases titles don’t necessarily match up with what people do on a day-to-day basis. And there are a lot of positions. I won’t go over them all, because many are self-explanatory. You can see the full list here, and you can click to see if their bios include an explanation of duties.

Michael Hazel, Chief of Staff: There’s not an official description of what he does at Virginia Tech, but when he was Senior Director of Football Operations at Penn State, his job was described as the following: “At Penn State, Hazel’s duties included overseeing the program’s external operations, analytics and facilities projects. He also served as the liaison between the Nittany Lions’ football program and the athletic department’s marketing, creative services, strategic communications and video production offices.”

Basically, he’s the chief coordinator and organizer. I know many of you have a military background, so think of it in terms of what a chief of staff does in the military. He doesn’t command anything, but he organizes things, he coordinates the different operations to work together, works out small details so that it never has to reach the desk of the overall commander, which in turn gives the overall commander time to do his job rather than concentrate on the small details.
