With Continuity Achieved, Pry, Hokies Hope Experience, Shared Bonds Lead To Bigger Things In 2024

Brent Pry’s biggest goal this offseason for the Hokies was continuity, a trend that started with the retention of nearly every big-named player with a choice to make in December and continued with the extension of every assistant coach on staff through at least 2026.

He’s hopeful that connective tissue, shared history and just plain experience — Tech ranks first nationally in SP+ at returning production — help Virginia Tech make another leap after getting over an initial hump last season, reaching the bowl-eligibility rung for the first time on Pry’s watch in Blacksburg.

“Everybody understands the process and how we do things,” Pry told Tech Sideline on Monday. “So everybody’s been through what we went through last year, which there’s just super valuable experiences gained.

“We bring somebody in new, they don’t really know what it was for our team when we were 1-3 and lost to Marshall. The shared adversity and the experiences, the growth and development, there’s no substitute for it. When you bring somebody new in as a player or as a coach, the messaging isn’t the same. It’s not as impactful. They weren’t on that ride with you.”
