Bitter: ‘Connected’ Hokies Defense Turns Tables In Drubbing Of UVa

Get the qualifications out of the way first. Virginia ain’t exactly the 1980s Nuggets. The Cavaliers aren’t often an offensive symphony in hoops, with a nails-on-a-chalkboard brand that’s going to struggle to score points on a lot of nights, even in wins.

This was a different style, a different pace, a different team than the one the Hokies faced a couple of days ago in Chapel Hill that nearly hit triple digits.

But 41 points? In 40 minutes? Of a rivalry game? You can’t help but marvel at Virginia Tech’s defensive turnaround in a 75-41 pasting of rival UVa at Cassell Coliseum on Monday.

“Man, we were quick. We were fast to the ball. We were connected,” a somewhat still stunned Hokies coach Mike Young said afterward. “Good to see.”
