BLACKSBURG, Va. — Believe it or not, Virginia Tech finished with a top-20 defense in 2023.
Run-stopping issues in the early part of the year aside, it was a pretty strong group, one that gave up 316.8 yards per game in large part thanks to a strong pass defense. That was better than even the standout 2017 group and was Tech’s lowest mark since 2013.
Almost everyone’s back outside of a few big contributors at defensive tackle, where the Hokies reloaded through the transfer portal, and cornerback Derrick Canteen, who transferred. It has the arrow pointing up on defense in 2024.
We took a look at what the Hokies’ offensive depth chart might look like on Wednesday. Now it’s time for defense and special teams, looking at just the players who will be here this spring.
