Virginia Tech football’s 2024 schedule was released on Wednesday. We knew heading into it what the first four weeks would look like, but we didn’t know how the ACC schedule would stack up. I thought it would be manageable based on the teams on the schedule, now that we know, there are a couple of issues that are setting off gongs in my head.

This article will read like it’s mostly a complaint, so let me say first that I believe that overall the schedule is manageable. I think the Hokies will be a better football team than most of the teams they play, and thus will win more than they lose. They shouldn’t have any trouble with their first three opponents, not even at ODU. They close the season with UVa, and we know how that one always goes. Home games against Boston College and Georgia Tech will see Virginia Tech favored. Duke shouldn’t be as good. Win those seven, and then win two of the other five, and we’re looking at 9-3. I still think the Hokies can do that, but there are a couple of stretches on the schedule that leave me concerned.

The Carrier Dome JMA Wireless Dome Trap Falls Before The Clemson Game

I’m really looking forward to the Clemson game and hoped it would be one of the first ACC games on the schedule. If that was the case, we’d know exactly what the Hokies were as a team. Instead, not only are the Tigers one of the last ACC teams on the schedule, but it comes after a trip to Syracuse and the dreaded Carrier Dome JMA Wireless Dome.

To those of you reading who go back to the Big East days, Syracuse on the road certainly doesn’t represent a trap game. For you younger fans who don’t go back that far, it might, so let me tell you right now that Virginia Tech always plays poorly on the road at Syracuse no matter how good either team is.
