Three Takeaways From The No. 14 Hokies’ Loss At Duke

DURHAM, N.C. — The No. 14 Hokies dropped their second straight game on Thursday night at Duke, 63-46. Virginia Tech struggled mightily after the first quarter, and when Georgia Amoore suffered a head injury in the third and left the floor, things spiraled. There is no update on her at this time.

Here are three takeaways the day after the game:

1. This is the first real adversity this program has faced in almost two seasons. How will it respond?

Yes, the Hokies were great last season, ACC championship, Final Four and all, but it takes a certain set of circumstances to have the opportunity to accomplish that. On that list is stay injury-free and get the ball to bounce your way a few times in close situations.

Outside of Elizabeth Kitley and Kayana Traylor each missing one game, Virginia Tech’s core didn’t have any injury concerns last season. Ashley Owusu missed time, which altered some things in December, and ultimately, the team found its footing. But when you avoid those situations and have the same main group together each game, it’s one less setback.
