Virginia Tech clashes with Virginia in Charlottesville on Wednesday (7 p.m. ET, ESPNU) for Commonwealth pride. Doug Sherman and former Tech head coach Seth Greenberg (2003-12) are on the call.

The Hokies (10-6, 2-3 ACC) beat then-No. 21 Clemson in Blacksburg a week ago but lost to Miami on Saturday. Mike Young said he thought his team “grew up” between those two results, especially considering how they fought through the adversity of losing veteran guard Hunter Cattoor.

“Golly day, we made some mistakes down the stretch on Saturday, but I thought we were very, very good,” Young said. “I thought probably our best game against Clemson on Wednesday. We had some great stretches, really good basketball against Miami. But boy, you make a mistake defensively and they make you pay.”

Young provided an update on Cattoor during Monday morning’s ACC media call: “He’s feeling a lot better. He’s got some tests and some markers he’s got to achieve before he’s clear to play on Wednesday. I don’t know any more than that. Time will tell if he’s in uniform on Wednesday.”
