With the first transfer portal window closing, it’s a good time to take a look at the scholarship count and see where Virginia Tech stands heading into the spring from a roster management perspective. Here’s where we’ve got the scholarship numbers right now:

Offense: 41
Defense: 47
Specialists: 2-3
Total: 90-91

I’m not sure whether or not kickoff specialist Kyle Lowe is on scholarship, but the Hokies will have to lose five or six players to get down to the 85-man scholarship limit, and they’ll have to lose even more if they want to add anymore portal guys during the next window.

This is the first of two articles this week that cover Virginia Tech’s scholarship situation. We’ll list the players at each position and I’ll give you my thoughts on where I think the Hokies stand. Today, we’ll cover the offense. On Thursday, we’ll move on to the defensive side of the ball.
