1) The coaches have a lot to get done in December and there aren’t enough hours in the day. Ideally, all three of the following they excel at, but if you had to rank them in importance or what you would spend your time on from 1-3, what would it be: A) Bowl prep to win the game B) Portal recruiting (keeping players you want to keep as well) C) HS recruiting, flipping and keeping targets. Most fans may not like it, but for me it is 1) B, 2) C, 3) A. I want to win, but setting up the future is so important I’d be OK with a dud bowl performance if we nail the other two for this year. Chris Coleman: I think sometimes it depends on the year, the fan expectations and the bowl game. Also, how big is the high school class? For this particular year, here’s where I would rank them:
1: Portal recruiting
2: Bowl prep
3: High school recruiting
One of the reasons high school recruiting is third on my list is because the Hokies are going to sign an extremely small class in December. Most of the work to avoid flipping has already been done. You’ve already built the relationships as strong as you can get them.
