The first edition of the NCAA’s NET rankings for men’s and women’s basketball was released on Monday morning. The Hokies are 76th and 32nd, respectively, as of Wednesday.
It’s a new season, so let’s break down everything you need to know about the NET and what the upcoming road looks like for both Virginia Tech teams.
The NET
The NCAA put out a good explainer about the NET on Nov. 27. Created in 2018, the NCAA Evaluation Tool, or NET, is made up of four factors:
1. Team Value Index: An algorithm set up to reward teams who beat other good teams. Based on game results, it factors in opponents, location of the game and the winner.
