Three Takeaways From Virginia Tech’s Loss To Florida Atlantic

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — If you’re reading this, it means I’m at Disney World and Virginia Tech men’s basketball has begun its preparations for Auburn.

I’m serious. I wrote out my thoughts on Sunday night after the Hokies’ 84-50 defeat at the hands of No. 19 Florida Atlantic in the finale of the ESPN Events Invitational at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. Before I head to Auburn for the second leg of this road trip, I’m spending Monday at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Magic Kingdom.

With that, here are my three takeaways from the loss. I’m planning to have a preview of Auburn on Tuesday.

1. Off-shooting nights like this are rare for Mike Young’s bunch.

Virginia Tech was 20-of-60 (33%) against Florida Atlantic and was just 2-of-17 on 3-pointers. In Young’s 131 games at the helm, the Hokies have shot 35 percent or worse just nine times, which equates to seven percent. The list:
